2016 La Primavera

2016 La Primavera
2016 La Primavera

If you lift a glass of this salmon pink beauty to your nose, you will be greeted with a glorious bouquet of strawberries and watermelon showing undertones of guava and blood orange – a perfect companion for the porch, now that you can emerge from the winter cave. In the mouth, the fruit flavors continue onto a palate that is dry, zippy, and alive – strawberry and watermelon are the dominant flavors again, but now with cherry, rhubarb, lime, and a hint of walnut playing counterpoint. In some ways this reminds us of a dry Bandol rose (not surprising, perhaps, given that half the grapes in it are Rhonish and Matt is known to have some a affection for the region.)

In any case, while one could certainly enjoy meditating on La Primavera’s beguiling scent and taking an occasional sip, for an indefinite period of time, this rosé should play very well with food. It’s a great wine for hard cheese or charcuterie, and we think at the dinner table vegetarians might want to pay special attention, since this was tremendous with a large platter of hummus, baba ghanoush, grape leaves, and other meat-free Middle Eastern delicacies, and we think it would be spectacular with pesto as well. If you are a rosé drinker look no further – lock as much of this away as you need for entertaining and relaxation from now through Fall.
